Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 7th-grade students are a myriad of different ethnic groups and most come from low-income families. I have several foster, homeless, and immigrant children in my classroom. My school provides them with amazing opportunities and ensures they receive a well-rounded education. However, many come from challenging situations that most of us can not even imagine.

Providing all my students with the best education and positive experiences are my goals as a teacher.

I love instilling them with my passion for learning, and I hope that they carry it with them throughout any tough times they have.

My Project

These journals will be a valuable tool for my teenage students to use for the second half of this school year. Our district provides a 30 minute Connections class where the goal is to build positive relationships with students that extend beyond just academics. This year, my Connections class has spent a lot of time discussing kindness and being mindful of others. Now I would like to carry that one step further, by using a daily reflection journal.

These mindfulness journals will be a keepsake, reflection, and guide for my students throughout the rest of their lives.

By having a special focused journal, it will help my students invest more in their personal growth and reflection.

In the past, I have used a general blank notebook for mindfulness/mindset activities. However, I think a pre-designed, decorated, and professional looking journal will be something they cherish and enjoy for the future. I'm hoping that by completing these books, my students will learn valuable lessons about how important they are to the world.
