This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students possess an unmatched desire to succeed in school. Possessing necessary and essential skills to achieve success throughout their academic careers is vital. When students attend school worried about difficult home situations and familial issues, maintaining academic excellence (while sacrificing sleep) and peer conflict and managing high school classes and college courses can seem overwhelming. With competing priorities, mental and physical health does not hold priority status because their minds shift focus.

Mindfulness teaches us to focus on the present moment, conscious and connected breathing, and pausing to reflect.

Both meditation and yoga are positive, effective methods to remind students to focus and honor themselves. These self-care skills can be practiced by all the students and independently allows them to take ownership and control over a certain aspect of their own lives. Possessing an open and clear mind allows for students to focus on learning, cultivate building positive and supportive relationships with family friends and teachers, and lead their lives with compassion.

With our yoga mats, students will feel more comfortable fully participating in both meditation and yoga sessions. It is my intention to create an inviting, fun, and safe place to practice mindfulness.
