They offer a bit of comfort to help them get through the day. \r\n\r\nHaving a variety of oils for aromatherapy have been supportive of anxious students and give the room a sense of relaxation upon entering. The coloring sheets are helpful to decompress after a test or serve as a way to enjoy a few moments not focused on academics. My students were thrilled when they first saw the paper towels in the restrooms—they immediately commented on how much faster and quieter it is to dry their hands compared to the blower. Beyond convenience, we also discussed how using paper towels reduces the spread of bacteria and germs, as studies show that air blowers can circulate them in the air, while paper towels help remove germs directly from the hands. This change has contributed to a cleaner, healthier environment at our school.\r\n\r\nIn our MCNC Club, we've tied this new resource into a mini project about sustainability and hygiene. We explored the environmental trade-offs between paper towels and electric hand dryers, including energy use, waste generation, and hygiene benefits. The students are now working on a proposal for asking LAUSD to re-fund paper towels at schools.
