My Students

In my classroom students are empowered through weekly design and creativity challenges as they realize their full potential as problem solvers, engineers, and scientists!

I teach at a middle school in a large urban area that serves students from all over our city.

Our students are diverse in every sense of the word and come to school each day, sometimes traveling over an hour on public transportation, seeking a quality education as they prepare for their future. Our school focuses on providing our students with an array of opportunities, from courses in the arts and music, to a variety of athletic and enrichment opportunities in every subject area.

My Project

My students take an elective STEM Lab that we have named, "Daydreamer's Workshop," where they problem-solve, reflect, and collaborate. These resources will transform our ordinary science lab into a space filled with materials and technology to engage in STEM concepts that will build future problem-solvers and middle school Makers. The Makey Makey Kit is an invention kit for the 21st century where students can turn anything into a touchpad and connect it to the internet. Students can then learn about electronics and circuits with the Squishy Circuits and Snap Circuits Kits. The Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Little Bits, and Sphero Kits will help students learn computer programming through digital maker projects, and the remainder of our wish list will add to the endless list of possibilities for students to create and make in our STEM Lab.

These materials will transform our traditional classroom into a true Maker Space where my students can learn by doing, building, and trying out their new ideas - transforming their sense of learning for the 21st century!
