My Students
"Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about understanding."- William Paul Thurston, American Mathematician. In Kindergarten, math is all about understanding. We play games, manipulate objects, and make connection to our lives to deepen our understanding.
My students have a love for learning. They ask questions and find solutions to their problems. They are budding mathematicians! My school is 85% free and reduced lunch. This means that they often come from families where their parents are working hard to make ends meet. Our students don't get many opportunities for exploration at home, so we provide that to them at school.
My Project
The books I am asking for will accompany our math units throughout the year. They will serve all three Kindergarten classes. By reading books about math, my students will learn how math works in the real world. They will gain a better understanding of math when we read the books.
By donating to my classroom, you are helping to create future mathematicians. My students love learning, and books about math will help them gain deeper understanding about the concepts we teach. Student learn through real life examples. The books we read are relate-able and students build connections to the our math concepts. This prepares them to solve problems in their everyday lives!
