Meeting Students Where They Are

Help me give my students snacks, fidgets, and basic creative supplies to help them feel supported, comfortable, and ready to learn.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sometimes, before a student is ready to learn, they need to feel safe, supported, and cared for. In our school community, students often come to the main office when they are hungry, overwhelmed, having a difficult day, or simply need the support of a trusted adult. We also have students who come to the office when they are not feeling well, and having access to a snack can provide a little comfort and help them feel cared for while they recover. I want to create a welcoming space where students can access snacks, fidgets, and calming supplies that support both their physical and emotional well-being.

I also want students to have a safe and creative way to express their emotions.

Drawing, coloring, writing, and other creative activities can give students an outlet when they may not have the words to explain how they are feeling. These materials will help create a space where students can take a moment to reset, receive support without the judgment, and have the tools they need. My hope is to create a comforting space where every student feels that they belong, that their needs matter, and that there is always a trusted place they can turn to when they need a little extra support.
