My Project

I have an energetic and enthusiastic group of first grade learners. They love to be active and have their hands on whatever they are doing. We have many diverse learning needs in our classroom. One of those needs involves having movement. Kids are having increasing difficulty in being able to sit and attend for any length of time. This makes teaching more and more difficult each year.

Flexible seating can provide an increase in student focus and willingness to learn.

We currently have some flexible seating options due to generous donors last year through Donors Choose. I wasn't sure what my students would like and would prove helpful to their learning so I only got 1 or 2 of a few seating options. Well, I quickly learned what were favorites and helped them focus and what didn't. So, now we need more of what works and what they enjoy. I found the wobble chairs add just enough movement for those wiggly learners while adding to their ability to focus on learning. I also found that they love to have floor seating to read. They are also more engaged when using the floor seating. These additional wobble chairs and floor chairs will give more of my students what they need to succeed in learning. The wobble chairs will replace traditional seats and the floor chairs will add extra comfort and flexibility to independent work time as well as our reading center time.
