Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials in this project support my students academically, socially, emotionally, and physically because learning can’t happen unless students’ basic needs are met first.

The materials selected will physically and emotionally regulate students.

Healthy snacks help address food insecurity that many of my students experience. Snacks are also used as positive reinforcement to encourage task completion, appropriate behavior, and perseverance. Kleenex may seem simple, but they play an important role in maintaining a healthy, respectful classroom environment.

Many of my students struggle with hygiene awareness or have allergies and frequent colds. Readily available tissues help prevent the spread of illness, reduce disruptions, and support student dignity and independence. Reading fluency and comprehension materials are essential for helping students strengthen foundational literacy skills that directly impact all subject areas.

Many of my students struggle immensely to keep up with the demands of high school-level reading tasks. Having access to resources that are at their current reading level will allow them to practice decoding, fluency, and comprehension. Social-emotional learning books and games provide hands-on opportunities for students to practice skills such as emotional regulation, communication, empathy, and problem-solving. All of my students receive behavior support services, and these materials allow us to explicitly teach and reinforce coping strategies, healthy relationships, and appropriate social interactions in an engaging, non-threatening way. All of my students have a school-issued laptop, but several are missing chargers. They can not use their laptops without a charger, leading to a lot of missing work and frustration for students.

Together, these resources create a classroom environment where students feel supported, prepared, and valued. By meeting basic needs and providing targeted academic and social-emotional supports, these materials help my students focus on learning, build confidence, and make meaningful progress toward their goals.
