I teach students in grades 9–12, many of whom have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and face academic, behavioral, and emotional challenges that can make the school day difficult. These resources will have a meaningful impact on my students by helping me create a positive, supportive, and encouraging learning environment where they feel valued and motivated to succeed. Having snacks available will allow me to recognize students for their hard work, positive choices, improved behavior, and willingness to participate in classroom activities. For some students, a small snack or tangible reward can provide the extra encouragement they need to remain engaged, complete assignments, follow classroom expectations, and persevere through challenging tasks.\r\n\r\nThe classroom supplies will also help me implement individualized behavior supports, reward systems, and incentives that encourage students to set goals, develop responsibility, and build positive habits that will benefit them both in school and beyond. For students with IEPs and behavioral challenges, consistent positive reinforcement can be especially valuable in helping them practice self-regulation, improve focus, manage frustration, and develop confidence in their abilities. In a high school setting, these skills are essential as students prepare for graduation, employment, independent living, and future opportunities. By providing meaningful incentives and recognizing progress, I can celebrate not only academic achievement but also effort, perseverance, respectful communication, and personal growth. Because of you, my students now have access to healthy snacks and high-demand items for our classroom store—resources that have already made a meaningful difference in their daily school experience.\r\n\r\nWe are using the snacks in multiple ways. Healthy snacks are available during the school day to help students stay focused, regulated, and ready to learn, especially during longer class periods or challenging lessons. The classroom store snacks are being used as part of our positive behavior and executive functioning system. Students earn points for skills like task initiation, staying on task, using coping strategies, and demonstrating appropriate social behaviors, and they can choose to save or spend those points at the store. Students who may otherwise struggle to display appropriate behaviors are incredibly motivated by their preferred snacks in the classroom store. They ensure that they are following directions and doing what is expected of them to make sure they can \"buy\" their snacks.\r\n\r\nOur snacks arrived just after students returned from winter break. Breaks from school can be especially challenging for students who do not have their needs met at home. Upon returning to school, their first thought is when they will get to eat for the first time. They were so excited and grateful that they had access to food that will nourish them. Many of the students were surprised by the fact that these snacks were donated to us, because I am usually the one to buy them. Knowing that someone who has never even met them donated this food helped reinforce the idea that they are valued and supported, which is especially powerful for students who often face barriers both in and out of school.\r\n\r\nRight now, our class is working on lessons focused on self-regulation, goal setting, and making responsible choices. The next steps include teaching students how to plan ahead, reflect on their choices, and connect effort with positive outcomes. The snacks are helping make these lessons real and meaningful. Your support is helping my students build lifelong skills while also meeting a basic need that allows them to learn more effectively.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students and our classroom.
