Students entering the Young 5s program should be 5 by September 30th. Most students entering the Young 5s program are between 4 years, 11 months and 5 years, 5 months upon the start of the school year. I have two groups of students with 10 students in each group. My students attend school all day, every other day on an all year alternating calendar schedule.
The students in the Young 5s program are chronologically ready to enter the school setting, but may not be developmentally ready to endure the rigors of the kindergarten curriculum.
The Young 5s program allows these students a year to develop the foundational skills needed in language arts to enter kindergarten the following school year.
My Project
As we continue to be in a state of fluidity during this pandemic, remote learning is becoming more and more common. Unfortunately, I have zero devices available for the 28 students that I currently have in class. We had a practice day for remote learning and I was able to see the need first hand during this time.
Having a laptop will give my students that need a device the ability to connect with me, the teacher, as we inch closer and closer to the possibility of moving to remote learning.
Our 6-12 buildings have moved to full remote learning but our PS-5 building remains face to face. I am grateful we are able to continue to be face to face. I need to be able to get devices to those families that need one so we can still connect. I need your help to do this. Will you please consider helping me and my students stay connected?
