This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I'm Ms. Castro! I’m a first-year, eighth grade math teacher with a big goal: to turn math from something students have to do, into something they love to explore. My students are bright, curious, and full of creative energy, and the right environment and tools will help them access mathematical concepts in a real, human way.

This project will help transform our classroom into an engaging, student-centered space where math is not just numbers on a page, but a hands-on, collaborative experience.

I’m asking for resources that encourage creativity in problem-solving like whiteboard supplies for group work, tools for algebra and geometry, and stickers and cards to build a positive classroom community. With the spiral notebooks and craft supplies, my students will build their own interactive math notebooks to take notes, explore new concepts, and practice self-evaluation and responsibility. It's very important to me to not only encourage my students' creativity in math, but also to support their growing adult-ing skills as they transition into high school.

With your help, I can build a classroom where students feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and grow as mathematicians. As a first-year teacher, I’m starting from scratch so every pencil, poster, and paper matters!
