Help me give my students a variety of locks to create an escape room activity to engage them in learning. The locks are direction, words, numbers, and keys where I will incorporate them into a fun story.
I teach students who have typically struggled in math. They take a double block of math class so that they have math every day (most have it every other day on a block schedule) and therefore extra time to work with me and practice. I love working with these students and developing ways to get them working and practicing math in ways they haven’t before. I love seeing their excitement about their newfound success in math when it’s been so hard before. I live for these comments: “this is the easiest math has ever been!” And “this is the highest grade I’ve ever gotten on a math test!”
My Project
I will create an escape room for my students. Using stories, math history, and solving mathematical problems at their level, they will find the clues to "escape the room." There will be a variety of clues and different types of locks where they must use teamwork to figure out. They will have a direction lock, key locks, word locks and 3 and 4 digit number locks to solve.
Students will be engaged with the fun aspect of the game while still learning valuable skills like the math knowledge, teamwork, problem solving, and perseverance to continue when it gets hard.
My hope is for the students to leave with a smile on their face and math in their brain.
