“I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.” ― Groucho Marx
There is a saying, "In grades K-3 students are learning to read, in grades 4-12 they are reading to learn." During this vital time in a child's development and reading ability it is curtail that they feel success while having books available to them that they actually want to read.
Children are a product of their environment and I want my classroom to be an environment filled with high interest books that engage students and help inspire a love for reading.
My second grade students love our differentiated math centers, however desks can make collaborative learning stiff and disengaging at times. The supplies I am requesting will assist with flexible seating options so that students can be more comfortable and engaged during math centers. I am requesting math carpet tiles for visual aides and computation activities. I am also requesting two flex chairs and three bean bags for comfortable seating during math talks. It is my hope that the large visual math tiles and flexible seating options will actively engage students and will make math a more comfortable subject for all students.
