By the second grade most students have acquired the skills necessary to be successful readers. There is a saying, "In grades K-3 students are learning to read, in grades 4-12 they are reading to learn." During this vital time in a child's development and reading ability it is curtail that they feel success while having books available to them that they actually want to read. Children are a product of their environment and I want my classroom to be an environment filled with high interest books that engage students and help inspire a love for reading.
