My Students

My struggling learners are in need of learning manipulatives for language arts (vocabulary games, phonics lip sync cards, word family flash cards, super sentence game) and math activities (fraction games/cubes). They are in need of tactile objects that can help them retain information.

I teach K-5 grade students as a resource specialist in a public elementary school.

The students have mild-moderate learning disabilities that range from speech and/or language impairment, attention deficit disorder (ADD)/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, autism, and auditory/visual processing difficulties. They are all well-behaved, learning just doesn't come naturally. It is something they have to work hard at when they are in their classrooms, in resource, and when they are at home. They are the students who are easily distracted or bored during class because learning seems to always be difficult or challenging for them.

My Project

Having more hands-on manipulatives (fraction cubes, word family flash cards, pizza and frog pond fraction games, and phonics activity sets) and activity books (interactive whiteboard reading phonics/comprehension activities) in the resource program will help keep the students engaged and interested during the lessons or while playing learning games. A media tower is also a request to provide storage space for the manipulatives and activities, and it will help keep everything organized and easy to access. The students will be more excited about learning new concepts because it will be easier for them, if they have more hands-on manipulatives to use.

Please help the students with learning disabilities, so they can also be successful learners like their grade level peers.
