Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Math is so important, it builds critical thinking and problem-solving skills, underpins science and technology, and helps us understand the patterns and logic in the world, enabling better decision-making in careers and personal life, like using colorful paper. Using colors in math is important because it boosts engagement, aids pattern recognition, clarifies complex problems, and helps students organize their thinking, making abstract concepts more concrete and memorable through visual connections, which supports diverse learning styles and improves focus and retention. Colorful paper also helps my students stay organized (where all homework papers are one color, quizzes another, and so on...), and makes learning just little happier...

I am requesting colored paper because each mastery check and discourse assignment needs to be on colored paper so I know (and other students know) what students are completing and can work with them to get them to understand math!

We use Mastery-based learning at my school and students need to show mastery at the end of each lesson. This approach allows kids to move at their own pace! It is amazing how colored paper adds spice and excitement to student tasks! If it helps them get excited about math, I love it!! It also helps students and me, their teacher, know what each student is working on just by the color of the assignment they are on!

Because students help each other and work together where each student is working, everyone knowing what each person is working on helps inspire good student discourse and encourages more Math talking!
