This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 4th graders are eager, tenacious learners! They crave challenges and love to support each other in their growth toward learning goals.

Learning is "stickiest" when it is hands-on and student-led.

For that reason, it's important to me as a teacher to provide learning opportunities and materials that allow the kids to explore concepts visually and develop their understanding with (guided) independence.

With this project, I am hoping to build up my classroom's math materials library with interactive and highly visual activities that students can engage with both independently and with partners in order to develop their multiplication fluency. Many of the students I work with are below grade-level in this area of math due to a multitude of factors (such as disability or ripple effects of the COVID pandemic's impact on schooling) and this is inhibiting their ability to access grade-level concepts. These math materials will help them to solidify their foundational skills, accelerate their overall math growth, and (perhaps most importantly) develop confidence and independence as mathematicians!
