My Students

My 7th graders are an awesome bunch who continue to defy the odds stacked against them. They are future chemists, music producers, visual artists, chefs, etc. All they need is a fair shot and the right tools!

Just yesterday morning, a student showed me where she'd copied every element of the periodic table the night before, simply out of boredom!

Several have presented me with amazing works of art, while another shared a song he sang and produced on his computer, all on his own!

I feel that my job as a 7th grade Social Studies teacher is to help my students become global citizens--young people who take an active interest in the issues around them and do what they can to make a real change.

My Project

A major focus at our school is helping to rebuild students' reading abilities since the pandemic. Many of them are especially needing extra support in their reading comprehension and fluency. The good news is that there is an abundance of non-fiction comics and graphic novels that appeal to our students, many of which love all things Anime and graphic novels!

Our class absolutely LOVED Book One of John Lewis's March.

It was engaging, but also didn't intimidate them, which made for a heightened sense of success when being able to complete the book. My hope is to be able to eventually introduce the second installment to them as soon as possible!
