My Project

About 70% of my students prefer Spanish as their language for reading, writing, and speaking. Because of this, even though I teach English Language Arts, I have made sure to build a strong bilingual library with a significant amount of independent reading books of all levels and genres in Spanish. This helps them get excited about reading and not stress about language. The only major deviation from this norm is when it comes to Manga books.

Most recent asks have been for Sports, Pablo Escobar, and poetry in Spanish, but Manga books are some of the only books my Spanish-dominant students ASK me to buy in English.

I love watching them devour these series in English because not only do they reap the ample cognitive benefits of independent reading in their first language, but they are also working to develop their second language of English through books they love.

Students are flying through the couple sports, poetry, and Manga books I have on my shelves, so I look forward to continuing providing them with more books as we head into second quarter! Thank you for your generous support!
