Pufahl & Rhodes (2011) found that bilingual students who demonstrate high language proficiency in Spanish saw enhanced academic success in English and other subject areas. Further, they found that these students expressed confidence in their ability to communicate and compete in a more globalized workplace and community (Pufahl & Rhodes, 2011). In fact, schools that expose bilingual students to both of their languages show stronger student performance in the STEM subject areas. This bilingual library will not only satisfy my students’ immediate desire to read novels in both of their languages, it will enhance their overall academic performance.
