My Students

We are located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the largest city in the state, with about twenty percent of residents below the poverty level.

My students come from a diverse set of backgrounds and each and every one of them brings a fresh, unique perspective to the classroom.

As freshmen, they are just beginning their high school careers: they are inquisitive, determined, and focused to make the best out of their school experience.

Every day, the students come to class with questions about current affairs, some obscure historical event they heard about, or just something that has always intrigued them that they want to know more about. Despite the hardships of starting high school during a pandemic, they arrive eager to learn! Their energy and determination to succeed are contagious and motivates me every day.

My Project

Last year the students became excited about a take-home library initiative, with the goal to provide books for the students to build their libraries at home. Over the course of the year the students expressed interest in specific books and genres, it is my goal to try and provide these books for them with the help of generous funding.

MANGA is a form of text that really appeals to many of my young scholars, by providing classical stories in manga form, it creates a bridge from traditional reading to modern reading.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
