Manga, Comics & Confidence: Books Kids Want to Read

Help me give my students engaging manga and graphic novels for both lower and upper elementary readers so every student can find books that build confidence, spark imagination, and make them excited to read.

My Project

My students are curious, creative, and full of personality, but not every student sees themselves as a reader, yet. Some are still building confidence with longer texts, while others are ready for more complex stories and new genres. What they all have in common is that they are much more likely to read when they can find books that truly interest them.

This project will add manga and graphic novels for both lower and upper elementary students to our library collection.

These books combine strong visuals with engaging stories, making them especially helpful for reluctant readers, developing readers, and students who benefit from additional context clues while reading. They also give stronger readers opportunities to explore character development, plot, dialogue, sequencing, and more complex storylines in a format they enjoy.

By offering books at a variety of reading levels and interests, I can help more students experience success with reading. My goal is simple, I want students to walk into the library, find a book they are excited about, and leave feeling like they are a reader.
