My students need 37 high interest books and study guides such as "Lord of the Flies" and "Baron's SAT" to increase their reading levels and writing skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like to constantly read, strengthen your critical thinking skills, and truly feel like you were college ready? Unfortunately, my students have yet to feel ready to enter a inquiry-based, self-sufficient, rigorous college course. I want my students to READ AND WRITE!
I teach Biology to 152 10th graders, and I am the homeroom advisor to 29 10th graders.
Our school is a small, poorly funded charter school that lacks sufficient resources. Our school's main priority has been the Math and English classes. As a result, our small science department has been forgotten, belittled, and pushed aside. Despite not having enough money for labs, I want my students to experience my passion for science. My students are so eager to learn and eager to discover the world, eager to share their thoughts and eager to succeed. I want my students to succeed and become college ready.
My Project
My goal this year is to implement a silent reading program to encourage my homeroom students to love reading and reap the benefits of reading. I want to implement instructional strategies with an emphasis in inquiry, problem solving, and written expression. My students have low reading and writing skills. I seek to improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking. In order to have high expectations for my students, I need to model exactly what I would like them to do and teach them how it should be done. I ultimately, want to prepare my students to do well on the SAT by increasing their reading comprehension skills and expanding their vocabulary.
Motivation only lasts awhile, but inspiration lasts a lifetime.
Through reading, I seek to inspire my students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and independent writers. I want to provide them with the proper tools and resources to succeed in college, leadership, and life. Imagine how happy and inspired my students will be when they see a visual presenter in their classroom and know that people, like myself, truly care about their education and their success.
