I teach Biology to 152 10th graders. Our school is a small, poorly funded charter school that lacks sufficient resources. Our school's main priority has been the Math and English classes. As a result, our small science department has been forgotten, belittled and pushed aside. Despite not having enough money for labs, I want my students to experience my passion for science. My students are so eager to learn, eager to discover the world, eager to share their thoughts and eager to succeed. I want my students to succeed and become college ready. My goal this year is to implement instructional strategies with an emphasis in inquiry, problem solving, and written expression. I want to teach my students test-taking strategies. I want to conduct more hands-on experiments, teach how to use the scientific method and model how to write a lab report. Most importantly, I want to incorporate more writing assignments so that become better problem solvers and critical thinkers.
