Making Sense of the Classroom with Sensory Materials

My students need ropes and a balance board in order to help them take breaks from the demands of the classroom or to meet their sensory needs. These items will provide the sensory output and input that they need.

My Students

Students at our school have diverse needs and abilities at our school. These needs range from Autism to Emotional Disabilities to ADHD. Students range in ages from 4 years old to 11 years old.

Sometimes we have to tap into those abilities in a different way in order to help the students learn at their best.

Other times students just need a break from the demands of the classroom. Our goal as special education teachers are to make sure that each student is growing and learning to their best ability.

My Project

Our students have unique needs throughout the school. They all have different needs and abilities. We are trying to reach a wide range of students from ages 4 to 11 years old. This is where the use of sensory equipment comes into play.

The use of sensory equipment helps students perform better in the classroom.

Students at our school have a unique opportunity with use of a sensory room. The ropes and balance board will help provide the gross motor stimulation that they need throughout the day. Sometimes this is to get out energy, to calm them, or to just take a break. This will help us meet their unique learning needs in a different way.
