My students need a sand-water play table, plus the sand to fill it.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our science center looks a bit too clean! Help us make an (educational) mess by donating a sand-water play table and the means to fill it. Students will learn all about water, sand, motion, force, viscosity, and more in a fun, hands-on manner courtesy of this project.
Our preschool class, at a public school in the District of Columbia, consists of 3 year old students.
99% of students in our school are eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, making us a Title 1 school. Everyone in our building works hard to provide the best resources for our students at no cost: from transportation to meals to exceptional Early Childhood programming so we can start closing the achievement gap early. Our students have limited resources. Young kids learn through experiences. A 3 year old's scientific knowledge, for example, tends to come from things they've directly experienced: playing with the sand on the beach or splashing around in the backyard pool. Most of our students have not had the resources (such as money, someone to take them there, a reliable means of transportation to travel there, etc) to experience these things.
This project includes: * A see-through sensory table with sand and other materials. We chose this sensory table because we loved the learning possibilities associated with it being transparent. Students can learn about color-mixing as we drop different "Color Your Water Fizzy Tints" (also an item in this project) and watch them interact. Students can learn about chemical reactions when we fill the table with a a bit of baking soda and allow them to drop diluted vinegar inside. Students can see what happens under the water as well! Finally, students can learn about motion and viscosity through play as they move the sand, water, and "Kidfetti" (another item in the project) about the bucket. * A splash mat, because too much mess isn't good! * Some books, so we can read about and explore what we're seeing during our play. * We have a number of buckets, funnels, strainers, etc. However, we do not have the table itself or the sensory materials to fill it. This project can help with that!
A sand-water table is a staple for any early childhood classroom.
It encourages learning through play and learning in a hands-on, FUN way. Your donation will add joy to our science center and, of course, a bit of (educational) mess!
