Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fifth graders are curious, energetic, and full of ideas. They thrive when they can talk through their thinking, ask questions, help one another, and celebrate each other's successes. Each of my 28 learners brings unique strengths and perspectives to our classroom, and I want every student to have a space where they feel included, supported, and ready to learn.

With 28 learners and one classroom, every inch of our learning space matters.

My goal is to create a more flexible, collaborative, and accessible classroom. Traditional individual desks take up valuable space, while these two flower-shaped tables will allow multiple students to learn together and create more open pathways throughout our room.

These tables will directly support learning across subjects. During math, students can solve problems together, compare strategies, and explain their thinking. During literacy, they can participate in small-group instruction, book discussions, writing conferences, and peer feedback. The tables will also give me a dedicated space for targeted intervention and enrichment.

Creating additional space to move safely through our classroom is equally important. I will temporarily be navigating the classroom on crutches, but accessibility benefits everyone. More open pathways can better accommodate students with mobility needs, injuries, or other physical needs while allowing all students to transition safely and independently around the room.

Most importantly, these tables will serve many classes to come. They aren't simply furniture; they are an investment in a classroom where students can collaborate, move safely, and feel that there is truly room for every learner.
