Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of excited children making music throughout the day. I have students ranging in ages from 5 to 11. More than half of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 63.9% are of Hispanic descent and most are bilingual, 14% are African American, 22% are White Americans, and less than 1% are Asian. They are eager to learn music and especially love singing and playing instruments.
Students learn music best through hands-on activities.
They will learn to read, play, and create music with the classroom guitars and ukuleles. The students will also learn self confidence, expression and teamwork! We have classroom sets of ukuleles and guitars which were generously provided through a grant. We were able to obtain storage for the ukuleles which has given us a great deal more time to make music since we can easily get our instruments to play. We want to spend more time learning guitar. So, we need accessible storage for them also.
My Project
The guitar storage cart will keep our instruments safe and easily accessible. My students love to make and create music. Having this rack gives us easy access to our guitars. We won't waste time getting out the instruments as they can be stored without their cases on this cart. Students will be responsible for getting their own guitar and returning it which will teach them responsibility and independence. We also want to take pride in what we have been given and allowing the students to care for it is a great way to do so. We have such a limited time to make music; using this storage will make the most of every minute. We will be playing guitars every day!
