My classroom is full of excited children making music throughout the day. I have students ranging in ages from 5 to 11. More than half of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 63.9% are of Hispanic descent and most are bilingual, 14% are African American, 22% are White Americans and less than 1% are Asian. They are eager to learn music and especially love singing and playing instruments. We a have classroom sets of ukuleles and guitars which were generously provided through a grant. We were able to obtain storage for the ukuleles which has given us a great deal more time to make music since we can easily get our instruments to play. We want to spend more time learning guitar. We also need a quick and easy way to tune our instruments. Students learn music best through hands on activities. They will learn to read, play and create music with their guitars/ukuleles. They also learn teamwork!
