My Students

My students attend classes at a four year comprehensive high school campus. They love their teachers and the positive learning environment we create here. They especially appreciate their beautiful library! This year I would like to push beyond reading skills and give students hands on learning opportunities by hosting makerspace workshops that will be available to all grade levels.

Our students crave a new experience!

There are many students that enjoy the creative processes involved in tinkering, taking apart, fixing, creating, and solving problems. Unfortunately many students do not have room in their busy schedule for the classes or activities that focus directly on these skills. Makerspace is a way for students to experiment and test their theories in an unstructured, fun environment. These activities will be offered during our Access Periods.

My Project

Hosting a Makerspace on campus provides an opportunity for hands-on learning and exposure to new concepts and skills in a low stress environment.

With the addition of these materials, students will be able to practice basic coding, build structures and test their accuracy, engage in a cardboard challenge, construct duct tape wallets, or engineer a project of their own design.

My learning outcomes are varied. I would like for students to engage in creating something of interest to themselves in a non-traditional classroom environment. I would like students to be able to play and learn independently, and I hope they will recognize that there's never just one way to problem solve and accomplish their goals.
