Maker Spaces!

Help me give my students robotics kits that will help them apply building skills at home or in school during the global pandemic to encourage continued learning in STEM.

This project expired on May 4, 2022.

My Students

Students are inquisitive learners and they desire to create. I teach grades kindergarten through fifth. I teach art and I have a history of coaching the robotics team. The robotics team is named Team Marvel and the students love to build and program robots to move, speak, and drive.

I am very interested in STEM and STEAM lessons and robotics is an extra-curricular activity that motivates students to interact with technology.

What I love about working with robots is that throughout the year, as students work with robots, their critical thinking skills improve. Students begin to think deeply to solve problems. Students also demonstrate that working collaboratively with others to solve problems is the best way to go. Students begin to share their knowledge and challenge their own understanding by listening to the points of view of others while working together.

Most importantly, I appreciate watching the students learn through trial and error. As students work with robots, they begin to realize that not knowing the answers is a part of the learning process. Students also acknowledge that getting the wrong answers promotes more in-depth learning. Robots are a great way to teach math and teamwork.

My Project

These STEM kits will allow students to continue learning either at home or in school in the area of robotics during this time of a global pandemic. Students will create maker spaces in school or at home and continue applying knowledge of discovery, innovation, and creativity attempting to problem-solve community problems that can potentially motivate change in the community.

There is a great deal of research that supports participating in art-making and creativity can support social-emotional learning.

These activities will provide opportunities for students to think happy and shine!
