Make Students Proactive and Interactive

My students need a Samsung Galaxy tablet and case to enhance their learning through internet research, web-based learning activities, and remote interaction with our SMART Board.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In order to be competitive, students first need access to the "game." LAUSD expects students to acquire 21st Century Skills, yet the students in my 8th grade English class do not even have access to one student computer in our classroom. Help put them on more level footing with a Samsung tablet.

My students are 8th graders at a middle school that was identified as "one of the lowest performing middle schools in the district," by LAUSD, targeting us for PSC 2.0.

In addition, my students face socioeconomic challenges, as minority students in a low-income urban neighborhood. Despite these obstacles, my students are nothing less than resilient, as they overcome structural school changes, personal obstacles, and inequitable access to educational opportunities and resources, by making the most of what they DO have to learn and express themselves as individuals. They are social, energetic, creative, and motivated to learn in novel ways. Help give them the tools they need to extend their learning and truly develop the 21 Century Skills they need to compete with their peers nationwide.

My Project

A Samsung Galaxy tablet will serve multiple functions in our classroom that will not only engage students, but also motivate their participation and interaction in classroom instruction. Students will primarily use the Samsung tablet via a Splashtop App or SMART Notebook Express to interact with the classroom SMART Board in daily instruction, such as completing practice exercises for the whole class to view as a cooperative learning experience. Students will also use the tablet as a researching tool in their Expository and Research unit, in which students will research a college or career of their choice, and the steps necessary to enter that university or field. Furthermore, students will enrich their learning through a variety of educational apps.

Providing my students with a tablet will empower them to be proactive in their classroom instruction.

No longer will students shy away from coming up to the board, when they can interact as a cooperative learning group at the comfort of their tables, in order to share their work with the whole class. Furthermore, a tablet will at least expose students at a class-level to the technology available to many students at an individual level in more affluent schools.
