Make Our Classroom a Place Where Inspiration Happens
Help me give my students a warm and colorful learning environment by providing a world map carpet and color printer to create learning anchor charts, engaging projects, and inspiring imagery for the classroom.
The students in my classroom have great potential. They come from all over the world and thrive in places where they feel safe and accepted. Changing and growing everyday, our students seek to be in an environment that is engaging. To us, an engaging classroom is a classroom where you can be yourself. This means providing resources for diverse learners and recognizing the need for both color and worldliness. This is important because, for some students, the classroom is a primary place for warmth and acceptance. Entering an aesthetically positive space can make all the difference.
My Project
Our school was built in 1923. My middle school humanities classroom was once a high school science room and could use some brightening up. Here in the San Antonio neighborhood of Oakland, the staff and culture at our middle school is bold, warm, and colorful. I think that our classrooms should be reflective of these values.
Facilitating a classroom with a color printer will allow room 116 and the surrounding hallways to be filled with positive imagery.
With this amenity, I plan to improve my classroom imagery and productivity by producing assignments and projects that use color as an element for engagement. Our students should be enveloped in positive affirmations and the faces of diverse leaders. Further, student engagement requires more than just words and verbal instruction. 65% of people are visual learners and require material to be presented through graphs, charts, maps, and diagrams. Black and white simply do not lend itself to the inspiration and excitement we hope to instill in our students.
Having a world map carpet will allow students to enter a classroom that is warm and inviting. Our students represent more than 20 languages and our student body is rich in cultural diversity. Humanities class is an opportunity to teach history, geography, and language as a road to self-discovery. Access to a large map to reference will help build perspective and context into our daily lessons. Please consider helping make our classroom an enriched learning environment our students deserve to have.
