Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inner-city high school students who are eager to learn and try new things. My school is located in a large, urban city. Of our 3,100 students, 94% are low-income, 10% have disabilities, and 8% are English language learners. I am extremely excited to teach for Chicago Public Schools. I teach in this major city where diversity abounds, but segregation still serves as a dividing line restricting students from experiencing many opportunities.

My school is predominantly Latino with some African-American and Asian students searching for better opportunities.

At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latinx, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. 

My Project

My students love being rewarded when they achieve new milestones or score a 4/4 on an assessment. I create my own customized MEME stickers to motivate and celebrate their hard work and these students LOVE THEM! These supplies will help me create an accountability chart to display for each class and track student progress. Most importantly, it will hold them accountable.

Also, help me give my students pens AND highlighters to help them read and take notes, so they can get their work completed with ease.

My students are very capable. But, we cannot hold students accountable without the right tools.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
