Children come to the library knowing that it is a safe, positive place for them to be. They know that the library fosters curiosity and lifelong learning and is a place where they can come to seek out books related to personal interests and also books to read for pleasure.
In the library, students are encouraged to read to feed their interests and to supplement what they are learning in the classroom.
We are a small neighborhood school of pre-k through sixth grade with about three hundred students. We are a Title I school with over a forty percent transient rate. Though we are small, we are a school family and do our best to take care of the entire student. Teachers at our school teach using Common Core State Standards, but we also use Social-Emotional Learning to ensure each child is a well-rounded student.
My Project
I always find it fascinating to see the ebb and flow of what is popular in the library. Some classics always stay--others become new favorites that I just can't keep in the library. As with all libraries, some of the most popular items don't make it back here, and I suddenly have a holds list that can't be filled!
This list consists of items that have been requested by students and teachers to read here at Northwood.
