Magnetic Materials for Little Learners

Help me give my students their own hands on manipulatives that support reading. Please donate to help provide magnetic reading materials to my students so they can learn how to read.

My Students

As a learning strategist, I get to work with all grade levels from kindergarten through fifth grade. My students are creative, eager to learn, and love doing hands on learning. Most of my students are ELL. They want to learn how to read and become better readers. Due to COVID and other hardships, the students I see are significantly behind. They come to me for intervention time, so I can help them close the gaps they have in their education. Most of my students need help with foundational reading skills. My focus is to help them learn their letters, sounds, and beginning reading skills in an engaging way.

Access to personal supplies is a big concern during the pandemic and funding is not available for the purchase of extra manipulatives for each student.

This project would make a huge difference in the lives of my students and our daily instructional practices. These materials would support the NVACS as students use manipulatives to model and develop their understanding through phonics and writing. Students and parents could have the assurance that COVID safety is being practiced within the classroom.

My Project

These hands on learning materials will support my students in reading.

I am requesting magnetic letters, magnetic white boards, letter dice, and other magnetic learning materials to help support reading standards (RFK.1, RFK.2, RFK.3).

Students would use the magnetic letters to isolate and blend sounds. This will assist with beginning reading and writing. The magnetic white boards will be used in conjunction with the magnetic letters. They will be able to produce sounds and words. They can then write the sounds and words. I currently only have one set of letters, and due to safety concerns, students can not share these materials. The other magnetic materials will be used to help my students learn their letters and sounds. These new materials will provide my students with more of a variety of activities during their intervention time with me.
