Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help me give my wonderful students the trailblazing works by the Chilean author, Isabel Allende. My students LOVE her books, most likely because they are filled with the magical realism that makes the world around them seem extraordinary. My students have not often had the experience of seeing books written by authors who look or sound like them stocked on their library shelves, which is why I am reaching out to the wider world this year for the help I need to change their lives and perspectives.

My students have been begging for all her titles, sometimes visiting the library once a week to see if I've been able to buy her books yet.

Her Young Adult series "Memories of the Eagle and the Jaguar" and her first published work, "The House of the Spirits" have been especially popular. I have added all Allende's titles that I could find, particularly the Spanish-language ones for my awesome English Second Language and Advanced Placement Spanish Lit students. Please help me bring a little magical realism into my library to inspire my remarkable kids. Thank you!
