Magical Math Videos with Notes

My Students

I teach math at a Title I elementary school. We are a small rural community. We rotate among three 5th grade teachers. I teach math to 70 5th graders this year. This group is a diverse student body with several kids in the sped program and others with neurodiverse diagnoses like autism. I have noticed how hard this group is willing to work.

I have also noticed the impact Covid has had on their education and also their social skills.

There have been many behaviors and emotional hardships they have had to overcome.

They are persevering and willing to adapt to new technology and independent learning. Many are getting sick and having to spend time at home learning on their Chromebooks. They are doing their best during these unprecedented times.

My Project

We have 70 kids in the 5th grade. Several of these students have been home sick with Covid or other illnesses. Having a Chromebook that you can write on with a stylus makes writing out problems and models much easier to see over videos or Zoom meetings. With math especially students need to be able to clearly see the steps being worked out. It's very hard to do that with a Chromebook and doc camera. The lighting isn't always right and students can have a hard time seeing the paper.

It will also help with making videos for workbooks you can write more clearly on a digital worksheets.

I think it will be a huge help for students who are trying to learn from home.
