Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently teach two 8th grade English classes, one 7th grade English class, and a 6th grade Computer Literacy class. My students range from a number of ages grades and talents. These factors of course effect their reading interests and abilities.
It is my goal as a new teacher to be able to cater to all of my students reading needs.
Sadly, my personal library that I have opened up to my students is very small and only contains my interests.
These are smart, responsible students who deserve access to books that spark their interests.
My Project
A lot of the books in my cart have a strong male lead which is something that is seriously lacking in my library currently. Many of the novels I currently have are heavily directed at female students. Novels like Hatchet, Percy Jackson, and Night have been picked in the hopes of providing some diversity in my library.
I want to provide necessary materials for my students.
Many of the books I have requested like, The Maze Runner, The Outsiders, or Fahrenheit 451, are all taught in my classroom and can serve as another option for students who may need a book provided in class that day for whatever reason.
