My Project

My third grade class is a group of curious and thoughtful students from diverse backgrounds with many different life experiences. The commonality among these experiences is the continual shared process of trying, failing, reflecting, trying again and again to persevere. It's rigorous and it's hard, but it builds persistence, character, and confidence in students.

Resilience must be taught, supported, encouraged, and reinforced to become an embedded life skill for children.

"The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" is an unforgettable tale that reminds students that life is abundant with joy, sadness, triumph and tragedy. Life is a journey and every step of the journey is the journey.

The reading and study in depth and complexity of this book will provide students opportunities to reflect upon their own lives, and share their experiences with their classmates to grow their social and emotional intelligence.

My goal for this project is to expand my students' perspective and approach to how they work through hardship and what they glean from it. My students become more resilient with each day. I know by internalizing strategies of resilience, they will become even more grateful and impactful leaders in the future.
