This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school located near Fort Bragg, NC. My students come from a variety of backgrounds including military, high poverty, and single-parent households. My students enjoy coming to school as an escape from other aspects in their lives.
I work hard every day to ensure that I am pushing every child to be their absolute best.
When my students enter the room, they are ready to learn. Due to the high level of poverty, all students receive free breakfast and lunch. As their teacher and role model, it is my job to expose them to the wonderful world of learning and life.
My Project
I teach in a very diverse area that includes all races, military families, and families living in poverty just to name a few. To me, that is what makes my classroom so special! I am requesting a variety of texts that cover culture, race, and acceptance for who we are.
This is absolutely necessary to expose my students to different cultures and experiences so they can go out into the world and love.
I will also be doing a sticks and stones lesson that will utilize the stones that I am requesting. We will be painting these stones and leaving them around our school. This will help to spread love and encouragement to our peers. The Sneetch will be used during a lesson about being different while utilizing the Sneetch story by Dr. Suess. Finally, the M and M's will be used to talk about how we all look different on the outside but our inside is all the same.
All of the materials I am requesting will help to implement tolerance and acceptance which is definitely needed in our classroom.
