The students I serve consist of special needs students; both male and female; all from various cultural backgrounds. Each one of my students is unique; varying in learning styles and abilities. However, one thing that they all have in common is their love for learning and continuous exploration! All of the students in my classroom are from low-economic households and have a hard time being able to access technology. As a result of COVID -19 students are participating in online enrichment by completing virtual and non-virtual assignments from the comfort of their own homes. Since the use of technology is the new normal it is imperative that all students have access to technology to learn, grow, and be successful academically now; as well as, in the future.
Many of my Special Education students are from low-economic families and they do not have access to a computer, laptop, or tablet. Giving students access to these devices will allow them to check their emails school updates, assignments, grades, etc. These devices will also allow students to complete online virtual assignments that have been assigned by various teachers. More importantly, these Special needs students will be able to schedule appointments with their occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapists. Help me prepare students for the "new normal" that has suddenly come about in the field of education.
