Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 56 Deaf and Hard of Hearing students attending Woodrow Wilson High School. Woodrow has over 1,500 students and it is specifically a challenge for my Deaf students, as they navigate through a hearing World. My Deaf students attend classes with their hearing peers using an American Sign Language Interpreter in order to be successful and have equal access to their education.

We were recently gifted a set of 20 iPads to help facilitate learning for our Deaf students and they are extremely excited about having this technology at their disposal.

Our Deaf students are extremely visual and having access to these iPad's is an additional tool to help them reach their academic goals.

My Project

We were recently gifted 20 iPads for our students use, however we do not have a secure method to store and charge the devices. The devices are being secured in an unlocked cabinet and they are having to be charged individually as needed using a power strip. Currently we are unable to take advantage of the full potential of these devices due to storage and charging issues.

Our students are eager to have access to these devices on a regular basis and with a lock and charge cart we can more easily move the devices from location to location in a secure and safe manner while maintaining their charge.

Having these devices secured and ready to use on a daily basis will have a tremendous impact on our students performance in their classes. Technology is an innovative teaching tool and this is especially true for Deaf students.
