My Students

Help us add to our meager classroom library! I teach French I to 140 students in an urban school. With limited school funds available to buy literature, our classroom library is very small. We need more French books for enrichment and exposure to the language.

My students attend a large urban school in Mississippi.

They are bright and curious, but have little exposure to life outside of our town. Learning French is one way they are expanding their horizons, and they love learning about the differences and similarities between our cultures. With these resources, they can experience familiar tales in the target language.

My Project

My favorite activity as a child was when my mother or grandmother would read fairy tales to me at bedtime. I loved looking at the pictures and listening to the stories over and over again. What people today dismiss as children's stories are actually quite complex and contain a good deal of high-order vocabulary and sentence structures. These stories, such as Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood, and Puss in Boots, are familiar staples of childhood. We need your help to help pass these stories on to today's generation of kids while learning new vocabulary and complex sentence structures in French.

Reading and understanding literature are crucial skills in today's society.

My students are working hard to develop these skills both in French and in English. With these French fairy tales, my students will hear familiar tales read aloud by native French speakers which will broaden their knowledge of French vocabulary and sentence structure, within their frame of reference. The cookbook will allow my students to delve deeper into the differences between French and American cuisine.
