Due to numerous contributions, I was able to create the infamous \"snack box!\" My students are absolutely enjoying this new addition to the classroom. This has enabled me to reward positive behavior and academic achievement. When these kids actually buy-in to their education, amazing things tend to happen. \r\n\r\nCheck out some of the photos and you'll see some of my students' recent work that will surely be rewarded with these incentives. A primary goal of mine is to inspire my students to think critically and creatively and I believe incentivizing this process has helped me optimize how many kids I can reach through what I teach. One of my students even stated that they intended to participate more often after being able to pick one item from the snack box due to being one of the few leaders of a recent classroom discussion (which can often times be a struggle to facilitate).\r\n\r\nIt is my hope to continue to use this as external motivation to boost student engagement in class. The funding of the World Music Alive with Piano Keyboards project and the provision of the resources has sparked an interesting set of interactions. From the day the boxes arrived, the scholars took interest in making music more their own expression. The smiles of personal accomplishment in playing, E.g., Italian Folk Song, Folk music from Poland, UK, Germany, Happy Birthday to You, Do Your Ears Hang Low, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Star-Spangled Banner, Shoo Fly, Sea Shanty, Carol of the Bells, Away In A Manger, Jingle Bells, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, All of Me Loves All of You, and scales, reflected for some students a greater sense of confidence.\r\n\r\nImpromptu and guided jam sessions, particularly with the use of the synthesized instrument and percussion sounds, happen frequently in keyboard classes, choir break time, and Jazz band rehearsals. Our general and special education scholars pair play and experiment with making sounds – one note, one interval, one chord at a time. The students taking Dual Credit college course in Music Appreciation all want to make music, even though it is predominantly a lecture course. Thus, including the hands-on element with these keyboards provide greater connection to sounds, pitch, dynamics, timbre, and rhythm. Students not assigned to the keyboard class pop by for a few minutes to try to play a melody from their favorite artiste on TikTok or YouTube. The recognition that they can tap out a few notes from E.g., John Legend, YoungBoy, or Beethoven informs their understanding that music is a global vehicle for communication and fun.","fullyFundedDate":1760693760267,"projectUrl":"project/world-music-alive-with-piano-keyboards/9690624/","projectTitle":"World Music Alive with Piano Keyboards","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Simpson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10244986"},{"teacherId":10196161,"projectId":9678798,"letterContent":"I am writing to share the meaningful impact that Brewing Connections: Building Community and Opportunity Over Coffee & Donuts has had on both my classroom environment and my life as a mentor. We've been using Nountown for targeted language practice, and the game-based repetition has helped students retain vocabulary and practice tones without fear. I've watched quieter learners volunteer to speak more often because VR lowers the pressure—suddenly they're \"inside\" the conversation, not staring at a worksheet. These sessions have already strengthened listening comprehension and built confidence in everyday phrases.\r\n\r\nWe also took a virtual tour of China to connect language with culture and place. One highlight was a student-led walking tour of the Shanghai Bund; as the student narrated what they saw in simple Mandarin, classmates identified landmarks and practiced directional phrases and descriptive adjectives. This seamless blend of geography, culture, and live speaking turned a standard cultural lesson into an immersive experience that students are still talking about.\r\n\r\nFinally, I've used the device as a positive incentive: students who meet learning goals earn brief recreational play time. This small reward has boosted motivation and reinforced our classroom culture of effort and growth. Even though we've only had the Meta Quest 3 for a short period, I can already see countless opportunities ahead—for conversational fluency, cultural exploration, and student engagement. Thank you for investing in a tool that is transforming how my students learn and experience Mandarin.","fullyFundedDate":1762543674669,"projectUrl":"project/step-into-the-future-virtual-reality-fo/9496621/","projectTitle":"Step into the Future: Virtual Reality for Mandarin Learners!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9470742_orig.png?crop=1169,1170,x0,y682&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1714767494101","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9470742"},{"teacherId":10196161,"projectId":9630535,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to our PBIS program.
