Help me give my students materials so that they can learn to read and write. It breaks my heart that these precious students are still struggling with the essentials of reading and writing in high school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi everyone! Thank you for reading. Becoming a Special Ed teacher has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I teach a Special Day Class for Severely Handicapped Students at a public high school. The majority of my students have challenges because of having an Intellectual Disability. All these students have secondary disabilities in various areas that make it difficult for them to read, write, communicate, and advocate for their own needs. Because each student’s needs are so severe and unique, they really need extra materials to help them grow. I am asking for your help to support me in advocating for them. This project was made to help students maximize their learning potential, and create an environment that is more individualized to each student's area of concern. It would be such a blessing to serve my students by enriching their lives with materials and supports that are catered to their individualized needs.
My Project
These materials give students the opportunity to build on literacy skills using hands-on materials. reading and spelling by having hands-on materials. The magnetic boards with letter magnets will help students create words when writing is not an option due to difficulty with fine motor skills.
The cash register and bank ATM materials will aid students in building functional math skills and independent life skills.
These skills will help prepare my students for real-world situations. My project's focus is to help my students become as independent and prepared for the real world as possible.
All of these materials will be used in a repeated format. The more students get exposed to these materials on daily basis, the more likely they will learn literacy skills and adapt seamlessly to daily living activities such as buying food at the grocery store, ordering food, and bringing the correct amount of money. My students only have a few more years until they are legally adults. Skills that you and I perform every day are a major struggle for them. I feel strongly that it is my responsibility to help them develop these important life skills while I still have the opportunity. Thank you so much for considering me.
