Little Sprouts: A Classroom Garden Adventure

Help me give my students the magical experience of planting a seed and watching it grow right before their eyes.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Pre-K students are naturally curious about the world around them. They enjoy asking questions, making guesses, and exploring how things work. With a classroom hydroponic garden and observation tools, they will have the chance to learn about plant growth in a hands-on, engaging way.

Help me give my students the magical experience of planting a seed and watching it grow right before their eyes.

The indoor hydroponic system will let students watch seeds grow into herbs and vegetables right in our classroom. Because it uses water instead of soil, children can see roots develop and how plants take in nutrients.

We will also use a root-viewing planter so students can observe root growth—something they don’t normally get to see. They will make predictions, track changes daily, and record their observations about the plants’ development.

A gardening activity guide will support simple STEAM investigations and spark curiosity about nature, plants, and where food comes from.

Through this project, students will build early science skills such as observing and describing changes, predicting outcomes, understanding plant life cycles, learning what plants need to grow, and practicing responsibility by caring for our classroom garden.

Growing their own herbs and vegetables will help children connect with nature and develop an appreciation for healthy foods. Seeing their plants thrive will give them a sense of pride and accomplishment.

This project will turn our classroom into a living science lab, where curiosity grows alongside our plants.
