My Project

My 4th grade students come to school each day ready to learn, but for many of them, access to basic self-care and winter essentials is not guaranteed. Items like deodorant, toothbrushes, period supplies, and haircare products are often overlooked, yet they play a huge role in a child’s confidence and ability to focus in the classroom. As students grow and begin to experience new changes, having access to these everyday essentials helps them feel comfortable, respected, and ready to participate.

In addition to hygiene items, many of my students also face harsh winter conditions without proper gear.

Snowpants, hats, and gloves are critical for staying warm during recess and outdoor activities, but not every family can easily provide them. Without these items, students may feel left out or physically uncomfortable, which can impact both their well-being and learning.

This project will provide a collection of self-care and winter essentials that students can access privately and without stigma. By meeting these basic needs, we are creating a classroom environment where all students feel cared for, confident, and included. When students don’t have to worry about being cold or lacking personal care items, they can focus on what truly matters—learning, growing, and being kids.
