On Fridays students get to write a note to a classmate about something they like about them or they are proud of. With them we are diving deep into topics like character analysis, vocabulary in context, empathy and real-world connections. \r\n\r\nToday, reading in our classroom is active, collaborative, and joyful. During independent reading time, you can hear a pin drop because students are so engaged in their pages. Afterwards, natural \"book clubs\" appear around the room as students talk about their books. \r\n\r\nWhile every student has benefited, the biggest impact has been our reluctant readers. A few who previously struggled to finish a single chapter are asking if they take the books home over the weekend. Finding popular books that match students interests gave them the spark and confidence they were missing.
