Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a full-day, special education, pre-kinder classroom. I am so lucky to spend my days with 20 amazing pre-kinders! This is the first school experience for many of them and they are already showing their eagerness to learn! Although our school is predominately low-income, (100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch) these little guys and girls are all highly motivated to learn! Our classroom consists of many different backgrounds, ethnicities, and learning abilities; however, our motto is, "Teamwork makes the dream work," and we work together every day to help each other learn.
My Project
I work with some of our youngest learners. While there is a heavy focus on ELA and math skills, many of these children are still learning about their own feeling, how to identify them, and what do do when they are too overwhelming.
Help me give my students a safe place in the classroom where they can have some privacy when they want to be alone along with materials to help calm their big feelings.
When we teach children about their feelings and give them ways to control their emotions, we are essentially setting them up for future success in school.
